We cannot run the service without a good supply of volunteers willing to give some of their time for a week or more - that means you. Our 'full-time' volunteers are led by Ken Hyde (photo right), a qualified teacher who has very wide experience in teaching in Britain and Thailand. "I came here after the tsunami expecting to be digging trenches and putting up buildings but they saw that I was a teacher and said there was a pressing need for English teachers in local schools. "When I realised just how much of a need, For most of his time here, Ken worked as the Head of English Teaching for the Tsunami Volunteer Center ... organising and teaching across the spectrum of requests for help. As TVC's main work, rebuilding after the tsunami, came to an end and its founders, The Mirror Foundation of Bangkok, decided to close it, the English teaching was His career and contacts in teaching have led to a string of professional teachers giving their skills for months at a time. And, of course, there have been hundreds of short-term volunteers who have exactly the right qualification for the job: |
